Since early 2014, some of Denver’s most dedicated leaders in youth and community engagement – including Denver Parks and Recreation, the Boys and Girls Club of Metro Denver, LiveWell Colorado, and Earth Force – have joined together to improve our local recreation centers and combat youth obesity in the neighborhoods of Globeville, Elyria-Swansea and Northeast Denver.

The collaborative project was funded by a $500,000 grant from the global healthcare company GSK. Over 90 youth have been engaged in healthy eating, active living, and youth leadership development projects and programs in three recreation centers: Stapleton, Swansea, and St. Charles Recreation Centers.

During the event, we’ll share how we’ve contributed to an over 100% increase in youth participation in just 18 months in the recreation centers. MY Denver will share their vision for sustaining youth leadership development across the City. And, guests will enjoy a performance from our new St. Charles dance team, a presentation from Swansea young people about their β€œFrom Couch Potato to Super Spud” recreation center marketing campaign, and Stapleton youth will unveil the new teen room and murals they designed themselves.

We hope you can join us to celebrate the kids’ amazing achievements and hear about how we will keep up the good work on May 14th from 5:30-7pm at the Stapleton Recreation Center, 5090 Broadway, Denver, CO 80216.
