Congratulations to the 2018 Mini-grant Awardees

In August, a call for mini-grant proposals was issued to all HEAL cities and towns. Congratulations to the following municipalities that received 2018 HEAL Cities & Towns mini-grants. Funding received will be used to:

  • Bennett – improve the Highway 79 and Bennett Ave. crosswalk to safely connect residents to the town’s trail system;
  • Central City – conduct a healthy food assessment to address the lack of a full service grocery store in the community;
  • Longmont – install water bottle filling stations in two municipal buildings;
  • Steamboat Springs – install bicycle racks in the main street corridor to encourage employees to bike to work, as well as to facilitate biking for those coming to town to shop, attend events, and visit other attractions;
  • Thornton –install a water bottle filling station and provide incentives for employees to participate in healthy workplace offerings; and
  • Yuma – provide Cooking Matters culinary and nutrition education classes at the local community center.

Curious to see what past mini-grantees have accomplished?

Wayfinding signs are a tool that municipalities can use to help residents and visitors find and access recreational amenities. In 2016, Wheat Ridge received a grant to raise awareness about city parks and to encourage residents to walk to parks.

In 2017, Leadville received a mini-grant to create a master wayfinding and signage plan in an effort to standardize signage while enhancing engagement with spaces & places across Lake County. Significant outreach was conducted to ensure the community was part of the planning process.

In 2016, Buena Vista installed water bottle filling stations at indoor and outdoor recreation facilities to ensure access to fresh water while enjoying the great outdoors.
