Meet the Mom: Robyn from Conifer, CO

Growing up in Wisconsin, I was a picky eater. Grilled cheese. Mac ‘n Cheese. Fish sticks and French fries. Yes, please! I have changed. My mom can’t believe some of the things I make for my kids. Cauliflower mashed potatoes, kale chips, beet and pear salad. What happened?

According to my mom, I became a “granola hippie out there in Colorado.” In reality, I realized the pure connection between body, mind, spirit… and food! And one step further, I had my own kids and woke up from the sleep walk.

Mom started calling me “granola” when I first moved to Kittredge and began experimenting with eating healthy. Well, at least healthier. I still loved my cheese, nachos, pizza and French fries, but was determined to find ways to make the things I loved a little healthier. (We gave our family and friends homemade granola for Christmas that year.)

When I was pregnant for the first time, I became unexpectedly hyper aware of many daily details… the smell of my house and EVERYTHING for that matter: the way my bare feet felt when they carried my weight out of the swimming pool, how uncomfortable it was to lay on my right side.

Most of all, I noticed my body’s connection with food. I noticed my bloated belly, relentless gas and even the texture of my mouth after giving into a fried cheese curd craving. I noticed the high vibration I floated on after a smoothie and blueberry pancakes. And, I felt the sudden comfort that an icy cold, crisp red grape gave my queasy stomach in the middle of the night. It was crazy how in tune I was.

Simultaneously, I was learning about the development of my baby. I became dedicated to giving my baby the best foundation possible through food, health and wellness.

Seven years and one more baby later, healthy food provides a major foundation for our family. It has become a part of new traditions, many dinnertime discussions (read: battles) and the catalyst to an entire collection of happy memories.

Health and wellness has become so important to me that I’ve become a Certified Holistic Family Health Coach, so that I can help busy mamas and families achieve their own health and wellness dreams. As a LiveWell Mom, I’m happy to share what I’ve learned thus far, including tricks and tips for raising healthy eaters, techniques to change up “the rut” and fun ways to bring a healthy lifestyle into your home.

Robyn grew up among the cows and cornfields in Wisconsin and now, she laughs and loves amongst the Colorado pines and mountains. Her true loves: the hubs, two daughters and Rufus, the black lab pup inspire her every day to move, stretch, climb, cook, relax, and search. Learn more about Robyn at Baby Kale Health Coaching.
