HEALTHY FOOD INCENTIVES

Double Up Food BucksThe Double Up Food Bucks program exists to increase access to locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, so naturally the program reflects the cycles and rhythms of the growing seasons. Many of our Double Up farmers markets are wrapping up this month and we celebrate these participating farmers and markets for all their work in making this season a success! Just as many farmers are harvesting the last of this year’s crops, reflecting on the successes and challenges of the season and applying their learning to strategies for the upcoming spring, the Double Up team is also in the harvest and reflection time of the year. The entire team gathered for the last corner store pop up event and reveled in the magic of children’s laughter and the beaming smiles of their caregivers. We grooved to the music of DJ Skip Rip and sampled the soul-nourishing food of Momma Jah Catering while promoting the program at one of our most successful corner store locations, the Syracuse Market. With the last event behind us, we will begin to integrate the learnings of this past year into a plan to reach more Coloradans with this incredible program. Locations including our corner stores, grocery stores, and other indoor markets and retailers are still open to offer Double Up year-round. Visit our map and search “year round” or filter by category to find a location near you before shopping this winter!
HEALTHY FOOD IN INSTITUTIONS

Local Procurement Colorado (LoProCO) & Culinary TrainingsAfter a busy couple of months providing meal quality and culinary trainings to our child nutrition providers, we are turning our focus to the launch of our three-part LoProCO workshop series! If you reside in Bent, Baca, Prowers, Las Animas, Otero, Kiowa, Cheyenne, or Crowley counties, these workshops are for you. The workshop series will happen in select cities in Southeastern Colorado over the course of a year—the 1.0 workshop is scheduled for January 28, 2022; the 2.0 workshop on March 11, 2022; and the 3.0 workshop will be scheduled in late 2022. Agricultural producers, institutional buyers, food systems and food access partners, extension specialists, and more are all welcome to attend. For more information, please contact Chef Jessica. She will be in the region frequently over the next couple of months and looks forward to meeting many of you.

HEALTHY FOOD SYSTEMS POLICY
We Want Your Input Getting Ready for Farm Bill 2023!
Nourish Colorado partners with the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition to determine and advocate for federal food system policies and our conversations have already turned to 2023 Farm Bill priorities. The NSAC Marketing, Food Systems, and Rural Development Committee has created a handy document that lists potential Farm Bill priorities. Given how extensive the Farm Bill is (go here for a Farm Bill 101 presentation), we will identify many additional priorities. But we need your feedback on these initial food systems areas.

Please complete this survey by November 19 to provide feedback on potential priorities. And reach out to Wendy Peters Moschetti with any questions or comments.
FOOD SYSTEMS CHANGEMAKERS
This month we are excited to welcome two new employees to the Nourish Colorado team. Devin Porch, Director of Business and Operations, and Taylor Frederick, Culinary Specialist!

Devin will be providing a critical administrative and operational role as the Director of Business and Operations. She started off her career working with people returning from incarceration, but has always had a passion for improving food systems and removing barriers to food access. She is a proud owner of one dog and two cats who always enjoy their snacks and snuggles! In her free time, Devin enjoys gardening, hiking, cooking, and snowboarding.

Taylor is the newest member of the Healthy Food in Institutions team and will work on LoProCO, Farm to School, and institutional procurement projects. He brings six years of unique culinary and nonprofit experience in the Denver area. Taylor ran the kitchen at the Denver Rescue Mission, leading volunteers, program participants, chefs, and interns. In his free time, Taylor enjoys hiking and camping. Taylor loves to make people happy through food and is excited to continue that work at Nourish Colorado.
