Thanksgiving Reflections and Resources

Dear partners,

As Thanksgiving approaches—a time evoking mixed sentiments—we embrace the stillness and quiet moments as a chance to slow down, learn, and reflect. This week we re-examine our perspectives and practices around Thanksgiving and its complexities by delving into readings—herehere, and here—written on the origins of this day in this nation to deepen our understanding.

This is also a time for us to express gratitude for our partners and work together. We appreciate you and continually learn from and are challenged by your work. We hope you take some time this week to rest, rejuvenate, and connect with the people and things (and foods!) that bring you joy.

Support and connect with Indigenous-led partner organizations for resources and ways to get involved in their work to advance the rights, well-being, and self-determination of Native American and Indigenous communities. Spirit of the SunNative American BankNative American Rights Fund (NARF), and First Nations Development Institute are local and national changemakers based right here in Colorado. Get to know the currently federally designated Tribes based in the state of Colorado—The Southern Ute and Ute Mountain Ute—and learn more about the territories, languages, lands, and ways of life of the many Tribes that have historically and currently reside on these lands at Native Land Digital.

This past year team members and community partners attended Spirit of the Sun’s Accomplice Training as well as the Native American Nutrition Conference drawing many important learnings to inform our work and frame our new Nutrition Education program. We changed banks and investment partners to Native American Bank and are happily partnering with them for our business banking and entire investment portfolio.

If you or your organization has been similarly interested in changing banks, participating in accomplice group workshops, attending or learning more about the conference, and want to talk about our process and experiences, please reach out to Wendy@NourishColorado.org.

We commit to learning more and working to co-create a food system that is accountable to the past, present, and future experiences of Indigenous Coloradans. Help hold us accountable to these values and join the conversation.    A big, heartfelt thanks to you!  The Nourish Team
