Day at the Capitol Recap

LiveWell Colorado hosted a Day at the Capitol on March 11th, the sixth annual event of its kind that connects LiveWell community coordinators from across the state with lawmakers from the House and Senate.

capitolCommunity coordinators met one-on-one with senators and representatives from their local districts to build relationships and discuss legislation that could increase healthy eating and active living opportunities in their community. Attendees enjoyed a light, healthy breakfast and coffee outside the Old Supreme Court Chambers. The entire day provided staff and community coordinators with valuable experience advocating for our 2015 legislative priorities as well as identifying and cultivating future champions.

Erika Wey and Sarah Harter, two members of the LiveWell Longmont team, commented on their experience, “Day at the Capitol is a great opportunity to bring our communities’ voice to our legislators. This day allows us to work alongside our elected officials to improve our communities’ health and wellbeing. This year we got to hear from four political insiders and gained a better idea of how the governor’s office functions to better Colorado.”
